Steve Rose – Friday Night Guest – April 9, 2021
(Submitted by Marilyn Walsh)
Steve Rose gave an in-depth analysis of Fred Ingrams and Claire Woods work.
Ingrams painted the Fens in Britain in bold bright blocks of colour in a square format. He includes architectural detail in the distance which adds depth to his landscapes. He scores into his foregrounds to add detail and energy.
Woods “sculpts with paint” on a monumental scale. She contrasts hard edges with organic growth. Woods randomly places odd shapes and accidental marks throughout her canvases. Her last series was of chandeliers.
Rose suggested to our members that working in a series gives you an easier start to your creative process.
