PLEIN AIR PAINTING WITH DVAC! – May 9, 2025
(Submitted by Taline Kavoukian)
On May 9, we enjoyed a special member-led presentation, hosted by Carol Berry. Many of our club members are plein air artists. In warmer weather, we take turns hosting plein air painting outings at various venues, such as Edwards Gardens, Bluffers Park, The Guild Inn, The Brickworks, Berczy Park and Kensington Market.
Our members took turns sharing photos of their work and speaking a little about the experience of plein air painting. We covered a number of topics, from why we enjoy plein air painting, to the materials we work with, the easels we carry, and the challenges of transporting our paints and paintings (locally and abroad). The logistics of painting outdoors present problems that many of us solve in unique ways. We enjoyed sharing our work and our process with one another, and answering each other’s questions.
Hosts of the outings talked to us about the venues that we go to, providing an idea of what the painting opportunities at these sites might be. Karin Fediw promoted the upcoming workshop by plein air artist and instructor John David Anderson on July 12 and 13 (10 am – 4 pm) rain or shine at Riverdale Farm.
