Lorette C. Luzajic ( https://www.instagram.com/lorette.c.luzajic/) is an award-winning mixed media and collage artist who has lived in Toronto for 30 years. She is also a writer who founded The Ekphrastic Review, the flagship journal of literature inspired by visual art.
We had a group of 15 DVAC members gathered in the studio for a weekend of exploration and creative fun making collage under the excellent guidance of Lorette Luzajic. She started with a brief history of collage as well as examples of her own work and other collage artists to draw inspiration from. We were encouraged to try various mediums with exercises to inspire us, such as ripping up paper, using words and images cut from magazines and old books, using our own photos, using stencils, colored pencils, acrylic paints, and various substrates to work on. She had many suggestions for finding ideas and inspiration that we used in our collages. Each of our individual styles emerged throughout the weekend. Lorette truly inspires and gives positive feedback to each and everyone. It was a fun and very inspiring weekend. Some of the comments from members:
