DVAC “Show and Tell” — October 23, 2025
DVAC hosted its second “Show and Tell” Thursday night October 23, 2025. As in the first “Show and Tell” it was fascinating to see the various styles and methods of the artists who brought some of their work and to be able to ask questions about their process.
Participants were
Sylvia Roy
Sylvia painted the same floral image in oils and then in acrylic.
- White frame – oil painting
- No frame – acrylic painting
Participants tried to guess which was the oil painting and we were mostly wrong!

Myra Evans
The artist scanned a photo using an app called “Diana” and layered other photos. Then printed at Staples. Then used Posca markers and paint, etc. Then poured a layer of resin. There was a learning curve to this technique to avoid bubbles. I believe the Diana Photo app can be found in the Apple app store or in Google Play.
Diana Photo: A photo app that combines photos from your camera roll using a dice icon or random generator to create unique compositions. It includes filters and allows you to share images on social media.

Carol Philp
Carol brought printed Christmas cards she had made over the years, from fairly large original watercolours.

Vanessa Robson
- Portrait of her son and his child – The artist collaged sheet music, then tissue paper. Drew with charcoal then painted.
- Study in Blue and Orange – many layers of acrylic paint and mark making.

Ava Goodman
Ava took a course on cartooning. She brought some of her political cartoons, a colouring book she created, and a “sketchbook” of whimsical art.

Ivan Miletic
- Wolf
- Plein-air landscape from Northern Ontario
- Imaginary landscape with sunset and water

Anne Fountain
- Anne took a course on still life and afterwards painted a still life of her art materials.
- She then painted a still life with spade, pot, glove, etc. She was unsure about whether to add a background or not and if so what colour to use. Various suggestions were made including to just leave it as is, and not to add a background unless she really felt it.

Ioana Bertrand
White “pod” sculptures made of white cheesecloth with glue. The artist was interested in the play of light and shadow on the sculptures. The hanging sculpture was mobile, responding to air movements.

Sheri Etherington
- Chair – watercolour with India ink applied with a dip pen.
- Floral – watercolour of lamb’s ears and begonias.

Marilyn Walsh
Marilyn presented a mixed media piece: a terracotta sculpture with acrylic painting background. Interesting was the owl head with two faces and differing expressions, depending on the viewing angle.
